Learn how to create a simple stand mixer attachment organizer using a wooden plate rack. No more rummaging through a drawer for loose attachments!

I enjoy DIY projects, and after my stand mixer attachments became tangled together yet again, I decided to find a better, neater storage solution. I’d previously used a wooden plate rack to store pot lids, and it occurred to me that the same rack would be perfect for organizing mixer attachments.

A wooden plate rack with removable dowels makes an ideal base: it has two side pieces and several vertical dowels that normally hold plates. By swapping and trimming dowels to match your attachments, you can turn that plate rack into a tidy holder for whisks, beaters, scrapers and other mixer tools.

I shared a few photos on social media and got a great response, so I put together this short tutorial. If you’re comfortable with tools you can build a similar rack from scratch with wood and dowels, but this quick hack works well for anyone with basic DIY skills.
What You’ll Need:

- A wooden plate rack – Look for a rack with two wooden side pieces and a set of removable dowels. Search terms that help locate one include “wooden plate rack”, “wooden dish rack” or “wooden plate holder”.
- Secateurs or a small saw – To trim dowels to the proper lengths for different attachments.
- Hammer – Optional; useful to tap dowels back into place if needed. A small craft hammer works well.
- Non-slip feet – Optional but recommended to keep the rack steady in a cupboard or drawer. Small clear cabinet bumpers are a simple option.
How to make a DIY stand mixer attachment organiser
The particular rack I used arrived in two main side pieces with upright dowels already inserted, plus a couple of longer dowels that join the sides. Start by removing the upright dowels: they’re usually not glued in and come out easily.
Trim some of the dowels to suit your attachments. Some attachments have shallow sockets and need shorter dowels; longer tools such as scrapers can stay on longer dowels so they don’t wobble. Keep a few longer dowels at one end if you store a splash guard or other tall accessory.

Arrange the dowels and test-fit each attachment. Whisks and larger items take more room, so place them at the ends where they won’t crowd smaller tools. If a dowel needs a little persuasion to seat fully, tap it gently with a hammer. The dowels in my rack fitted snugly and didn’t require glue, but you can add adhesive if you prefer a permanent setup.

Flip the rack over and stick non-slip feet to the bottom. These prevent the organizer from sliding in the cupboard and make it easier to pick up when you need to move it.

And that’s it — a very simple DIY stand mixer attachment organizer. It fits neatly in a pantry, cupboard, deep drawer, or beside the mixer on the counter. If you want a more finished look, fill any unused dowel holes with wood filler and paint the rack to match your kitchen. I’ve left mine natural, and it’s still working well years later.
If you have other kitchen storage ideas or variations on this build, I’d love to hear about them — share your tips and experiences in the comments.
