This season I considered a glittery theme, but ultimately it didn’t feel like me. I added a subtle touch of sparkle in the living room, yet the kitchen called for more natural elements. What started as a glittered deer ornament hanging from the hood swag evolved into a display of pinecones and vintage cookie-cutter bells — a combination that suits our home far better.

That’s an important decorating lesson: don’t follow every trend unless it truly reflects your taste. Choose what makes you happy and fits your home’s personality.

I recently found several vintage zinc buckets that I couldn’t resist. They make excellent tree holders, so I kept a couple for the house. I place a large glass milk jug inside the bucket to hold the tree upright and keep it watered — a practical and charming solution.

I use fresh greenery throughout the year and especially at Christmas. We’re fortunate to be surrounded by pine, so clipping branches is as simple as stepping outside. For this kitchen I relied on fresh clippings, pinecones, and a few vintage finds to create a festive but understated look that feels cohesive and natural.

I finally hung two wreaths on the pantry doors — something I meant to do last year but didn’t get around to. They may be my favorite detail, especially with the small bells tied to them. The wreaths are faux, but I tucked in fresh clippings to give them a more authentic look. Adding live greens to faux pieces is a quick trick when real wreaths or garlands aren’t available.
