Allrecipes Celebrates 15 Years of Recipes and Community

Allrecipes knows how to celebrate, and I was thrilled to be invited. The company welcomed Allstar Ambassadors to Seattle to mark their 15th year as a home for home cooks on the internet. It was a thoughtful and energetic celebration that brought together community members, staff, and content creators for a memorable few days.

Paul and I arrived a day early so we could explore Seattle before the Allrecipes events began. A previous visit left us with a short list of places we wanted to revisit, and this trip gave us a chance to enjoy a few favorites and discover new ones.

As soon as we checked in to the hotel we headed straight to Pike Place Market. Ever since our last trip I had been dreaming about the seafood bisque at Pike Place Chowder. If you’re anywhere near Seattle, do yourself a favor and try it. The chowder is rich, comforting, and unforgettable. I was so focused on enjoying the food that I left the Nikon in the bag and relied on my phone for photos.

There was still just enough room for more, so we picked up a prawn cocktail from one of the fish counters inside the market. Fresh, simple, and absolutely delicious—perfect market fare that you can almost inhale the minute it’s placed in front of you.

The next day we were touristing in earnest.

We jumped on the Monorail for a short ride over to the Space Needle. It’s an iconic landmark and worth seeing in person. Nearby are several other attractions that make the trip even more rewarding, including the Pacific Science Center and cultural exhibits.

The Pacific Science Center was hosting the King Tut exhibit during our visit—an engaging indoor option for a cool morning. From there we walked to the Chihuly Glass and Gardens exhibit, which showcases the breathtaking glass art of Dale Chihuly. The indoor galleries are dimly lit and stunning, while the outdoor gardens feature whimsical glass sculptures that seem to grow from the earth.

The walk through the Chihuly atrium to the outdoor gardens is genuinely awe-inspiring. The scale and color of the pieces make it one of Seattle’s most memorable cultural experiences.

After soaking up the art, we returned to the Pike Place area for lunch at The Pink Door. This restaurant had been on my list for good reason: charming décor, a patio overlooking Puget Sound, and an excellent menu. I had a Caesar salad topped with crab that was extraordinary, and Paul enjoyed a flavorful meatball panini. It’s a spot I recommend if you get the chance to visit.

That evening we relaxed a bit before heading into the Allrecipes portion of the trip. The next morning the official events began at Allrecipes headquarters, where the staff and many contributors gathered for a full day of sessions and conversation.

The program opened with an engaging presentation about Allrecipes’ culture and community values. The company’s mission and internal practices clearly extend outward to the millions of users who rely on the site. Themes like collaboration, risk-taking, and empowerment were emphasized, and it was clear why employees and contributors alike feel connected and invested in the platform.

Throughout the day we attended sessions on Business Intelligence, Video, Public Relations, and Social Media—topics that matter to creators and to anyone interested in food media today. The sessions were informative, practical, and delivered with enthusiasm.

Later, the celebration continued with a lively party. Cocktails flowed from a customized Allrecipes ice sculpture, and chefs prepared an array of tempting bites. Trays of macaroni-and-cheese bites and other hors d’oeuvres circulated through the crowd, and a conference table remained well stocked with small plates and treats.

One highlight was the company’s openness to feedback: product and community teams asked for our input on site features and user experience. It was rewarding to be heard and to take part in discussions with people shaping the future of the platform.

The night included lighthearted moments: a flip book photo station where many of us put on props and made fools of ourselves, and a raffle with kitchen-themed prizes announced in a playful and uniquely enthusiastic style. There were plenty of photo opportunities and warm conversations—time spent catching up with fellow contributors and meeting new friends.

Throughout the event I was impressed by the dedication and energy of the Allrecipes team. Staff members worked tirelessly even amid the festivities, and their commitment to the community was evident in every interaction. I left inspired by their work and grateful for the opportunity to participate in the celebration.

The trip was a wonderful mix of sightseeing, conversation, and learning. I’m thankful to everyone at Allrecipes for sharing their expertise and for inviting us to celebrate 15 years of supporting home cooks. It was a joyful, informative, and inspiring experience that I won’t soon forget.
