Now that I’ve started this blog to document the parties I’ve thrown, I wish I had taken better photos of the decorations. In some posts you’ll only find the invitation—lesson learned: take pictures before guests arrive.
These first photos are from a reunion held in March 2009, with a theme rooted in 1984. I’m still delighted by how the mannequin turned out — she looked totally tubular in a Purple Rain T-shirt, fingerless lace gloves, a mini crinoline skirt, and jelly bracelets. Tables were scattered with extra jelly bracelets and Bazooka bubblegum. We played three classic movies on separate TVs: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Purple Rain, and Valley Girl. The soundtrack was, of course, all 80s hits. Centerpieces featured fluorescent colors with cassette tapes woven through them. It was a genuinely radical throwback to the decade.
