I make protein bites regularly and store a batch in the fridge for quick snacks. They’re high in protein, not overly sweet and keep me satisfied between meals. My kids enjoy them too. They’re similar in convenience to other favorites like paleo chocolate brownie bites.

During hot summer months it’s still important to prioritize nutrition: eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, stay hydrated and keep moving, even when temperatures are high. Simple habits help maintain energy and wellbeing through the season.

One convenient way to boost nutrition is using high-quality nutritional boosters. Protein powders, chia seeds, flaxseed meal and hemp hearts are easy to add to smoothies, baked goods and energy bites to increase protein, fiber and healthy fats.

The vanilla protein powders I like have a short ingredient list and plant-based protein sources such as pea protein plus fiber and natural sweeteners for balance. They’re often gluten free and vegan, and work well mixed with water or blended into a fruit smoothie.

I decided to use a vanilla protein powder to make cookie dough–style protein bites. Combining almond flour, protein powder, coconut oil, almond milk, maple syrup and mini chocolate chips yields a dough that tastes remarkably like raw chocolate chip cookie dough—without eggs and with added protein.

These chilled chocolate chip cookie dough protein bites make a nutritious, grab-and-go snack, especially refreshing on warm days.
