Fish Bowl Snow Cones — a playful and simple summer treat. These snow cones are so cute they might be illegal.
You will need:
- Nostalgia Electrics Retro Snow Cone machine
- Berry Blue syrup (recipe below)
- Candy fish
- Toothpicks
If you want a quick shortcut, use unfrozen Otter Pops. Simply snip off the top of a blue raspberry Otter Pop and pour the liquid over your freshly shaved ice for instant flavor.

You can purchase snow cone syrup in stores or online, or make your own using Kool-Aid. For this recipe I used an Otter Pop as a shortcut, but the syrup below is great to make ahead.
Snow Cone Syrup Recipe
- 2 cups white sugar
- 2 cups water
- 2 packets unsweetened Berry Blue Kool-Aid
1. Combine the sugar and water in a saucepan and bring to a boil.
2. Reduce the heat and simmer for 3 minutes.
3. Remove from heat and stir in the Kool-Aid powder until fully dissolved.
4. Cool completely before using — if the syrup is warm it will melt the fluffy ice.
Directions
1. Crush ice with your snow cone machine.
2. Scoop the fluffy shaved ice into a glass, filling it about halfway.
3. If using an Otter Pop, cut open the top and pour the liquid over the ice. If using the homemade syrup, transfer it to a plastic squeeze bottle for easy application.
4. Squeeze the syrup to evenly cover the ice.
5. Push a toothpick into the bottom of a candy fish.
6. Insert the toothpick with the candy fish into the center of the snow cone to create the “fish bowl” effect.
